antipating
March 26, 2023, and any day now there is the chance we’ll see some osprey back in the area. In the past few years they have arrived between 3/27 and 4/6, and it seems a little earlier each year.
Only the first season here, 2019, we had a nesting pair that successfully nested, laid eggs and raised three young! In 2020 we did have a lot of activity and it seemed promising that a pair was making their home but then they abandoned the nest. A neighbor told us someone saw a third bird attack the two on the next, so that may have caused the disruption. Late that fall the pole cracked during a heavy storm and the nest came down.
We had the nest rebuilt the following February, and while there were a lot of visitors, no pair claimed the nest.
So here we are, on the edge of spring, again feeling the hope of possibility! I’ll keep you posted!
